Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation

Covergirl launched earlier this May, the new “Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation”. Declared an oil free, lightweight, full coverage Foundation that includes Vitamins and Ensulizole Sun Broad Spectrum SPF 20.  Makeup is clearly moving in the direction of multi-tasking.  Not only must Makeup now perform as claimed but it must nourish and transform our skin.  I first came across the Vitalist Foundation earlier this month on @LVmakeup’s Instagram.  I was initially drawn to the packaging.  A bit shameful, but it’s rare to find a Drugstore Foundation with a pump, let alone one infused with Vitamins as these are all qualities found in higher-end Foundations.

CoverGirl’s Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation claims to be a hydrating formula with a build able coverage that gives your skin a luminous finish, without accentuate oiliness  while also being a lightweight formula.  Doesn’t this sound like perfection – and a mouthful?  Well after testing this foundation out multiple times let me share with you my thoughts.  The first thing you’ll notice when using the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is its scent.  Picture a refreshing floral scent, similar to a fresh shower.  With the same regard if you are not fond of scented foundations you may dislike the scent since it won’t dissipate throughout the day.

This is a true medium coverage foundation and when layered can become full-coverage.  After several failed attempts I could not achieve a full coverage finish with a Beautyblender.  I found it gave me  sheered out coverage with a patchy finish.  I do however recommend using a flat top Kabuki Brush if you desire Full Coverage.  Let me just say, Full Coverage is possible but you need to test out which tool works best for you.

On another note, the Vitalist Foundation does an amazing job at color correcting dark circles, redness and veins.  But you will need the help of concealer to cover acne scars or brown spots as they do peek through the Foundation.  For being a water based formula and having dry skin, the Foundation is hydrating.  With that said, I would not recommend this product to those with oily skin since the Dimeticone would cause  shine.

On paper The Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation appears to be the Holy Grail Foundation for 2017.  Unfortunately it falls short in one very important department; shade range.  It contains 30mL ( 1 FL OZ) and is available in 14 shades but Ulta Beauty and most Drugstores only carry 6 shades.  In addition, the Formula does oxidized two shades deeper once it set.  So if you have Normal to Dry Skin and you do not tend to oxidize, the Vitalist Foundation might become your next Holy Grail.  If not, don’t fret, our search continues.
